On September 6, 2016, our precious mother and grandmother, Barbara Ann Martin, went to sleep peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and friend to all she knew and loved. She did not meet a stranger.
Barbara was born July 13, 1928 in Bartow County, to Luther and Barbara Jane Arp. She married Frank Hugh Martin, Sr. in November 1947, and they were married for 35 years and had eight children. She retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant in Atco and she worked at the Waffle House on Moon Street for many years.
Barbara is preceded in death by both her parents, her husband, Frank Sr., their daughter, Jane Martin, one grandson, and one granddaughter, 2 great-grandsons, one son-in-law, Scotty Alexander, seven brothers, and one sister.
Surviving her are two sons, Frank (Phoebe) Martin, Jr., and John Martin; her five daughters, Billie Jo (Larry) Moore, Elaine (David) Burns, Mary Beth Alexander, Susan Roland and Margaret (Wayne) Martin; one brother, John (Gail) Arp; two sisters-in-law, Claudia and Margie Arp; and one brother-in-law, Bobby Lewis, Sr. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren. Also there are many nieces and nephews.
The family will be having a memorial service at Taylorsville Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Following shortly after, we will be meeting at the Taylorsville Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, located at 19 Church Street in Taylorsville, where we will be celebrating the life that our Mother and Grandmother lived to the very fullest.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care and the caregivers that took such good care of our Mother. In lieu of any flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org to help find a cure.
Please express condolences for the family in the comments section below. The Martin family is being cared for by Georgia Funeral Care and Cremation Services, Acworth, Georgia.
