Philip J. Floor, Sr.

Philip FloorPhilip J. Floor, Sr., age 54, of Kennesaw, Georgia, died June 15, 2017.

Philip John Floor, Sr. was my best friend, husband, father, brother and friend to all. I think back when I first met Phil in Wilmington, Delaware on a blind date, I knew that first time we met that he was the one for me. That first date has been going strong over 30 years. I loved him and will have his memories last forever. His dedication to his two boys was amazing. No matter what was going on in work, he made time to be at every event that his children were in and also coached them. Being their coach wasn’t enough so he became their Scout leader, and then as they got older it was harder to coach them as we all know how kids are, so he became a Hockey Referee so that he could stay close to his boys. Joining the Hockey world was priceless to Phil, he loved it and never cared how tired he was, he would do 5 or more games in the same day. The Hockey Association was his second family away from home.

Phil, as we all know him, loved movies, TV shows and comedy that he and my boys shared together. He always would quote movies and play the old time music in the car that would put us to sleep. As for his hearing we all knew that it was selected and that the TV was so loud that you could hear it next door.

He was a loving brother and what I loved was that his sisters and brother would text everyday crazy things and you felt like they were all in a room together laughing. He loved when Kathy, Cindy, Andy, Jen would text the crazy things or an updated picture of Anna his niece would be attached. The laughter and love they all shared daily was like if they were all at a kitchen table having fun.

Phil was known as a Saint on my side of the family because he was there for everyone anytime and any always went to any family reunion, wedding or just to visit on a holiday. He was close to all and just kept moving along as calm as he could be no matter what crazy thing was going on in the McDonald house. Phil felt like he was the luckiest guy with two wives, me and Kathy my twin.
To sum this up, I want to say that Phil was my life and I thank him for all the memories that I was fortunate to share with him.

Love always,
Debbie

  44. Debbie and Family,
I can’t say enough good things about Phil. I feel like I know the three of you so well without ever having met you in person. You guys were his life and he truly treasured every single moment he spent with you! I have known Phil for so many years and he’s provided a hefty list of movies I must see; he even sent a movie to Kenadie that he felt she must see due to her love for animals. He has kept me laughing, scratching my head and many emotions throughout the years. It’s so hard to fathom that he’s gone, but I do pray that he’s happy up there with his dad and he’s smiling and watching over all of you down here. Please know that my love, thoughts and prayers are with you all.

  45. Debbie,
My heart, thoughts, and prayers have been with you and the boys since hearing the news. I hope all of your wonderful memories carry you through this difficult time and you all are able to find peace, and continue on, in your own ways, honoring his life and legacy. Sending you all much love. – Michelle

  46. Phil is the epitome of a gentleman. He was never too busy to help, to teach, or to learn…and it sounds like he lived his life that way both in and out of work. I so enjoyed working with him and he will be sorely missed.

Phil was always a calm voice of reason and I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with and learn from him – and mostly to know HIM. Phil has touched so many people and will be always remembered with much affection, love and respect. My thoughts and prayers are with the Floor family as well as everyone who had the honor to know Phil.

  51. Debbie and Family,

I worked with Phil for many years. He was always a generous and helpful partner. He never let the little things get him down and he always was thankful for the people around him. I will miss talking with Phil and will always remember him and hold him close in my heart. He will truly be missed.

  52. I managed Phil’s advertising projects for the past 6 years. He was so smart – and great to work with. Very sorry to hear this news – he will be missed by so many here-

  53. Dear family,
I so saddened to hear the passing of Phil. Phil was my friend back in 1982-1984 at SUNY Fredonia. A bunch of us would hang out together on our free time. We might walk to the bars together or go to the same parties etc. Phil and Otter were like big brothers to us.
One time your beloved Phil came to my dorm, which I shared with Susan Y. (see earlier comment) He said to us, Do you believe in “It’s the thought that counts.”? We said sure, we believe it’s the thought that counts. Then he proceeded to tell us that he was walking through the student union and saw some club selling flowers. He reached into his pockets only to find that he had no money to buy flowers. So on to our dorm he came and said that he saw the flowers and wanted to buy some for his good friends, Susan and Annie, but he didn’t have any money. Then he just summed it up with “It’s the thought that counts.”
Another story from Fredonia speaks to how nice Phil was in college. Sometimes on Sundays during football season, Susan and I would call up some of the guys in the men’s dorms to see if they would talk to us during the game. Most of the guys said they were busy watching the game. But I want his family to know that if Phil answered the phone, he WOULD take the time to chat with us. He never said that he was too busy or has to get back to the game. We didn’t really have anything to ask him, but we talk about the goings-on around campus and such. He was THAT nice.
Our generation didn’t have all the devices like they do now. I wish I had kept in touch all these years. But, it’s the thought that counts!

  54. I am so very sorry for your loss. I grew up with Phil and his brothers and sisters and I feel as if we just lost a large piece of our past. Just a lovely family. Prayers to you and your family.

  55. Im so sorry for your loss and wanted to send my heartfelt sympathy. I personally find comfort in the wonderful promise of a resurrection of our loved ones at John 5:28,29. We have the opportunity to see them again under the beautiful conditions described at Psalms 37:10,11. I hope these scriptures bring you some peace during your difficult time.

  56. Our thought and prayer are with Deb and her sons and the entire Floor family he will be missed my all

  57. I am so sad to hear of Phil’s passing. He was like a mentor to me when I was fortunate to work with him at MBNA in Boca. I always admired his love for you,Deb, and for his boys. He was so kind and I will always remember his sense of humour. This is a huge loss for your family and those of us who were blessed to know him. Praying for the Floor Family.

  58. Oh Debbie .. I didn’t know Phil was ill. This is a huge
shock for me to see this here. As you know, I didn’t know
him the way I knew you, I knew through you that he
was a great husband to you, and father to your boys who
were just little guys when you and I worked
together. I knew you were very happy and that
told me all I needed to know about Phil, because you
were always happy and without a care. He took
very good care of you and your family.
I knew you were happy in Kennesaw, but I hated
that you were away from De.
I wanted to go to Kennesaw with you…
Deb, Deb, Deb … please reach out to me for
anything. I know you have 2 wonderful familys,
but I would love to connect and help in any way I
can… and you know, I can atleast get you to try to smile
Deb, I am just soooo sad, but I believe it is the body that
goes, and his spirit will be with you watching over you.
Please let me know how you are .. how I can help
.. no matter what it is
    Deb Dills 386 216 6075
Love you always and I’ll be praying for you, your boys

  75. Debbie, Phillip, Tim and Family,
I remember with great fondness how the McKinlay family and the Floor family became the best of friends when the Floors moved to Boca Raton.

We were extremely fortunate that the Floors became part of the St Jude Church and School community.
Adrian and I got to know Debbie and Phil through their sons and their involvement in St Jude related activities: Church, School, Fall Festival, Auction, Walk-a-thons, Scouts, Fly Open Golf, and of course – St Jude Hockey. I was the Commish and Phil was the Referee. We were quite the team.

Debbie and Adrian were tight. Phillip and Kevin were tight. Phil and I were tight.

We felt a sense of loss and sadness when they moved away from Boca, but I am very grateful for the time we had when they were directly in our crazy group. I also know that their move to Kennesaw allowed others to experience their friendship and generosity.

Debbie, Phillip, and Tim – We love you. We miss you. We are here for you.

Phil – We love you. We miss you. You will always be in our hearts.

  76. I just received this news a few moments ago and I’m deeply saddened and shocked. I had the pleasure of working with Phil for many years at MBNA and he was always upbeat and a positive influence on all. It’s clear from the many responses of others at MBNA he was liked by everyone. I’m very sorry to hear of his passing and will keep the family in my thoughts and prayers.

  77. Deb I am so sorry for your loss & will keep you & your family in my prayers. The 2 of you could not have been a better match. May god bless you & the boys during this difficult time. Take care. Lisa Connor

  78. Debbie – I love your tribute to Phil & the adorable picture of him. If he was wearing a softball t-shirt & cleats, it would be an exact replica of how I remember him! You both so graciously shared your multiple talents with us & the St Jude family, and we are extremely grateful for having had those precious moments together. We love you & the boys and extend our sincerest condolences to the entire family. A very large Boca hug sent your way XOX

  79. Dear Debbie,
What a beautiful tribute to Phil. You gave all of us a glimpse of who Phil was as a husband, father, son and brother. I have such fond memories of you and Phil and the St. Jude family.

I remember the first time I saw Phil’s unique humor. It was at a party at the McKinlay’s. We were sitting by the bar and this song started playing (I wish I could remember the name of it). Phil, with a serious face not saying a word, started shaking his head back and forth to the beat of the music. It doesn’t sound funny, but to see how serious he looked while doing it, had me laughing with tears.

It was at the same party that we were playing butt quarter relay. Phil was on my team and it was his turn. He dropped the quarter halfway to the cup and it rolled into the pool. I told him he had to go get the quarter or the other team would win. Without skipping a beat, he walked right into the pool and got the quarter!! He had us laughing so hard! I think we ended up winning!

At another party, I Discovered his love for John Denver, which led to the unforgettable John Denver performance at Adrian’s surprise party! Truly a classic, Phil Floor moment!

Phil was a quiet man with a gentle soul. He will be missed deeply. I pray that you, Phillip, Tim and your fmily find comfort in each other and that the sadness you feel now will soon turn into wonderful memories.

    Love,
    Peggy and Brent

    Matthew 11:28
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

  80. Debbie- We will always have fond memories of Phil during the holidays and at the McDonald/Russo Summer family parties. Although there was always some kind of drama going on, Phil was never a part of it. He was the relaxed guy just hanging, having a few beers. That’s what everyone loved about him. He will be surely missed at the next gathering but will be watching from heaven. P.S. what a beautiful picture of him….Wishing you lots of love…Laurene, Jim, Brian and Katie

  81. I’m heartbroken to read this news. Sending all my love and prayers to the whole family. Hoping the memories of laughter and goodness will bring you some comfort and peace at this difficult time. ♡

  82. Debbie, I am so saddened to hear the news of Phil’s passing. You and the boys as well as Kathy and your extended families are in my thoughts and prayers. Love you.
    Bear 💜

  83. Debbie,
My heart goes out to you and your family. I remember Phil as hardworking, kind, funny…a good soul. I remember when you met and married, you could see how much he loved you. Take one day at a time, it won’t be easy but your friends, family and memories will move you forward.
    Hugs,
    Elizabeth Hershey-Ross
