Robert “Bob” Drayton Jones, Jr., age 76, of Woodstock, Georgia, formerly of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, died March 12, 2017, following an eight-month illness with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois Faye; two sons, Robert D. Jones, III and Christopher E. Jones, and their spouses; his sister, Dorthy Jean Moore, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, and by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Retired from the University of Alabama after 32 years in the Division of Financial Affairs, initially, Bob was a systems analyst in the Office of Methods and Procedures, helping to develop real-time computer systems for the University. Later, he was a senior analyst in various facilities operations.
Prior to his employment with the University, Bob was a supervisor with the prime contractor for the Air Force Eastern Test Range during the Gemini program and the Apollo program, up through and including the Apollo 11 lunar landing. Bob’s experience with real-time computer systems used in supporting the space program gave him expertise useful to the University in the development of its systems.
Bob possessed a kind-hearted, grateful nature that served him well throughout his life. He looked for the good in everyone and in every situation. He was at peace with himself and clearly content with his life’s journey.
A private interment service for family only will be held in the Memorial Garden of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Roswell, Georgia.
