Edward Spaeth

Edward D. Spaeth, 85, passed away on May 6, 2017 at Hospice Atlanta in Brookhaven, GA.

Born January 11, 1932 in Queens, New York to Julia  Schaefer Spaeth and Edward Spaeth, Ed was a life long New Yorker except for one short term move to Atlanta, Georgia to volunteer for the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. After graduating from Bayside High School in 1950, Ed served  two years in the United States Navy as a Radioman (RM). He served as a New York City Police Officer (NYPD) for ten years and closed out his career as a New York City Firefighter (NYFD).  After retiring, he volunteered as a tutor for English as a second language for 16 years and remained friends with many students for years. Ed pursued his life's passion for singing after retiring.

As an accomplished tenor, he sang in a Barbershop quartet for many years and was an active member of the church choir for Our Lady of Good Counsel on the Upper East Side for 15 years. Ed's long time voice teacher and choir director, Joan de Caro,  was also his close friend who "made me the singer I am." Ed enjoyed swimming, loved opera and cheered every year for his New York Mets. His dazzling smile will be missed by his choir "family"and friends.  Ed Spaeth was laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains.
