Cathy Knox passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2025 surrounded by the family who will love her and miss her forever. Cathy was an only child, born on January 14, 1957 to James and Hazel Elliott in Cartersville Georgia. Both preceded her in death.
She had a humble and happy childhood being very willful and spirited (often giving her parents a run for their money), being adored and spoiled by her grandparents, becoming best friends with a host of aunts and uncles close to her own age as well as multiple cousins. She was raised in the days when times were simple and extended family members were just as close as immediate family. She always made nurturing those relationships a priority throughout her life. She married the love her of life, Elvin Pate, at a very young age and they had three children together. They did later divorce and remarry others but their close bond and friendship remained until she moment she passed away. To offer a glimpse into the type of person she was - she was a knower of all things related to old home remedies and wives tales, a baby and animal whisperer, awesome biscuit and gravy maker and she could make any plant in the world grow, bloom and thrive just by being near it. She enjoyed the simple things in this life. She laughed and smiled and "cut up" every day. On an ideal day she would have an animal to hold, a yard sale to stop at, visitors in her yard to sit and talk with, a new rose bush to plant, a taco salad from Tacos and Subs ("as hot as they can make it") and surprise visits from her grandkids. Everyone was always welcome at her house and once you got there you would find you were never in a hurry to leave. She was as country as the day was long.
Cathy is lovingly survived by her four children, their spouses, her grandchildren as well as a younger cousin who was just like one of her own children: Chris and Mary Pate James and Michelle Pate - Brandon Mitchell, Jamie Pate, Michael Hall oy and Chuck Hight - Riley Wheeler, Sam Wheeler, Chaz and Mary Hight - Oaklynn, Britt High CJ and Amanda Cox - Abel Cox and Brantley Cox Laura and Simon Peace - Joshua Peace, Jacob Peace and Justin Peace. She made us promise that we would not do any sort of memorial service or funeral for her. She did love family gatherings and huge homemade meals so we will be having one to remember and honor her very soon. I
f you loved her and would like to honor her memory in some way, here are a few suggestions: Sit with someone who is sick. Plant something in your yard. Eat a big bowl of cornbread and milk. (She preferred buttermilk but that is a tad over the top.) Stop at at least one yard sale on a pretty Saturday morning, no matter where you are headed…slam on the brakes and pull in. Give your dog a piece of cheese. Watch an episode of Andy Griffith. Listen to a Conway Twitty or Loretta Lynn song. Sit in the sun. Call or visit a cousin and “cut up” for a while.
We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Lexi with Burnt Hickory Residences and Kayla with Tapestry Hospice who went above and beyond in lovingly caring for our mother. Words cannot express our gratitude.
