Chenkie Ponders Broyles

Chenkie Ponders Broyles of Calhoun, GA, passed away on January 12, 2025 at Ross Memorial Health Care Center. Chenkie was born in Dalton, GA to Willard M. Ponders and Marie Dixon Ponders. She lived in Alabama for many years before settling in Calhoun, GA with her husband Arlin Wayne Broyles. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brothers Danny Ponders and Randall Ponders. She is survived by her sons Bryan (Amanda) Broyles and Chris (Christie) Ellis, granddaughters Jessica (Michael) Davis and Amber Wall, and great grandchildren Mason Roe, Madison Blalock, Trista Wheeler, and Kennedy Wall. She is also survived by her brother, Lewie Romine, and many many friends.

Chenkie was just as unique as her name implied and she spread smiles wherever she went. She had a varied career but always fondly recalled her years at Roper and her time spent working with the Gordon County Training Center. Chenkie had a strong faith and loved the Lord. Though she couldn’t get out to church for her last years, she often read her bible and she prayed daily.  More than anything, Chenkie loved her family and friends. She brightened the days of those around her and she will truly be missed. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, January 16th, 2025, at 2 PM at Gordon Memorial Gardens with Reverend Bart Ponders officiating.
