Claudia McCormick White

July 26, 1939 — February 12, 2025

Cartersville, GA

Claudia McCormick White passed from this life to the next on February 12, 2025, under the full moon. Born Claudia Ellen Venable on July 26, 1939, in Seattle, WA, she was the daughter of William Venable & Esther Michener. A graduate of Lincoln High School, she modeled wedding gowns and received a scholarship to the University of Washington, where she majored in journalism.

On April 24, 1959, she married George McCormick, raising two daughters, Melinda and Katrina. While she embraced the role of a minister's wife, Claudia’s true passion as a writer emerged in the 1970s. She became an accomplished editor, ghost author, and formed the Seattle Chapter of The National Writers Association. Her published works included the novel Raven at Sunrise and various short stories, across many literary genres, focusing mostly on Celtic historical fiction.

After a divorce in 1994, Claudia moved to Cartersville in 2002, where she founded the Georgia Book Writers Association, still thriving today. A polio survivor, she stayed active as a swim instructor. In 2008, she met  Alvah “Bob” White at the local senior center. They were hand-fasted on Valentine’s Day in 2009 in accordance with her celtic values and tied the knot a year later.

Claudia was a storyteller who touched hearts across generations. Her love for family was boundless—she cherished her husbands, 2 daughters, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. Not to mention her parents, 2 sisters, 3 nieces, and 3 nephews, and many friends. Claudia’s legacy of creativity, warmth, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Join us to celebrate Claudia’s Life this Saturday, March 15th, 2025 at the Church of the Ascension, 205 W Cherokee Ave, Cartersville, GA 30120 at 2pm followed by reception and presentation.
