David Welch Meroney, Jr.

December 20, 1941 — July 15, 2019

David Welch Meroney, Jr., 77, passed away on July 15th, 2019, after a long illness. David was born December 20, 1941, in Greensboro, NC. to David Welch Meroney, Sr. and Anne Chandler Meroney.

In 1955, the family moved to Atlanta to stay; enjoying their home at Chastain Park for the next 51 years, until the passing of his mother in 2006. His father, David Welch Meroney, Sr. passed away in 1957. David attended North Fulton High School, and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. David was soon drawn to his life's work; Architectural and Interior Design. He had an amazing ability to draw house plans so perfectly. His knowledge of 18th Century furniture, art, porcelain, and architecture; and how to choose fabrics, colors, furniture and art was boundless. He would put that all together for his clients; and later their children. His work is still enjoyed by his many clients and friends.

He participated in the early days of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Decorator's Show Houses, bringing his talent to a good cause. David loved dogs all his life. His first companion was Bubba, a very clever Pekingese, who greeted all the clients who came into the 18th Century Shop to see David. Later, at home, came Muffy and Wolfgang; then Winston and Leopold to keep him company for years to come. David will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his kind, helpful personality, and his keen intellect. He will be greatly missed. David is survived by his sisters, Patricia Meroney Davis, Margaret Leigh Meroney; nephew, William Carl Davis, Ill; nieces, Leigh Anne Davis Kuhn, and Zoe Eva Fadul Meroney.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
