Dr. John Mark Covington

September 17, 1928 — March 23, 2020

Dr. John Mark Covington, 91, passed away peacefully at his home on March 23, 2020. He was born on September 17, 1928 in Cookeville, TN to the Reverend Burgess White Covington and Ethel Grace Stucker Covington.

Dr. Covington received a BS degree in Agricultural Science and Engineering from Tennessee Polytechnic Institute in 1951 and his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee Medical Center in 1957. While in medical school he met the love of his life, Glenda Faye Veach. They married August 18,1956 and moved to Paulding County in December of 1958. He fell in love not only with the county but also the wonderful people he met through his work as a family physician. For this and many other reasons, he devoted his life to making Paulding County a good place to live and raise a family.

Dr. Covington was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James (Jim) Covington and William (Billy) Covington, and two sisters, Helen Copeland and Lucile Hyder. He is survived by his  sister Lois Lacy, his beloved wife, Glenda Covington, his children Mark (Martha) Covington, Cindy Covington, Sandra Covington, James Covington, Diana (Barry) Bickers and David (Pam) Covington, and 5 dear grandchildren and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Due to the current state of affairs in our country, a memorial service will be held at a later date TBD.   Interment will be at Georgia National Cemetery in a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the First United Methodist Church’s “Finish in Faith Fund” or to Wellstar Foundation in memory of Dr. John Covington for the Wellstar Paulding Hospital Trauma Program.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the friends and family who have supported Dr. Covington throughout his years. Your love and kindness will be forever remembered.
