George Walter "GW" Lewis

George Walter "GW" Lewis, born on January 25, 1940, in South Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at the age of 84 in Marietta, Georgia.

As a young man, George proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, exemplifying dedication and resilience—qualities that remained hallmarks of his life. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished 43-year career in state government, working for both Florida and Massachusetts Revenue Departments. His commitment and strong work ethic left an enduring impact on those he worked with and the communities he served. 

For nearly sixty years, George shared a devoted marriage with his wife, Sharon Lynn Lewis. Together, they built a lifetime of cherished memories and a family that was the cornerstone of George’s life. He is survived by his wife Sharon; daughters Michele Lau and Melissa Lewis Simile; son Marcellus Lewis; and grandchildren Faith and Shane, who will forever hold him close in their hearts. 

George’s life journey took him across several states, including Georgia, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, and Massachusetts. No matter where he lived, his love for his family remained a constant source of strength and purpose. 

In his leisure time, George found joy in gardening, playing cards at the American Legion, visiting casinos, and attending storage unit auctions—pursuits that brought excitement and fulfillment to his days. Known for his dry sense of humor, often appreciated most by those closest to him, George brought laughter and warmth to many moments. 

A man of unwavering devotion to family and hard work, George leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, perseverance, and the values he held dear. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him. 

A visitation will be held in the chapel of Georgia Funeral Care, 4671 S. Main St. Acworth, GA on Thursday January 30th at 11:30 AM with a service to follow at 12:30 PM.  An internment service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton GA at 3 PM.
