Herbert Grady Willis "Crazy Grady" blew into the atmosphere on January 28, 1952 in Cartersville, Georgia and left like a fireball on April 22, 2025 from Austell, Georgia. Grady was a man who lived life on his own terms. He lived in a world of his own, and every now and then he would grace us with a tour of it. If you ever had the pleasure or the displeasure of meeting him, it was an encounter you would likely never forget.
He is survived by his daughters, Merry Willis Hofmeister and Terri Willis Harcourt. Grady was known as Pawpaw to his surviving grandchildren: Sarah Delores Adair, Orion Lee Adair, and Tessa Jill Hofmeister Grady was known as a very unruly child often the class clown and the official collector of Hickory switches. At a young age he joined the military and did a 16th month tour of Vietnam. This experience led him to becoming the man he was in every way, Vietnam was not kind and neither was the world afterwards when he returned home. He began a lifetime of construction work. He was a master carpenter, but also known as a jack of all trades. He definitely was from the work hard play harder generation as he would say it takes studs to build houses. Grady will always be remembered for the love of his grandchildren, his wild shenanigans and the wild tall tales he told and made with his actions. Its always been said that genius and insanity is a fine line and Grady Willis walked all over it. Few people could full understand his crazy language but everyone remembers his favorite parting words-“ Hiddy Ho Hiddy Hey till next time.”
Services will be May 7 at 3 o’clock at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA afterwards we will be serving hotdogs, hamburgers, and hot fresh crazy Grady stories at Cooper branch day area pavilion off 20 in Cartersville.
