Mr. Jake "Junior" Cochran Jr., 85, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 21, 2024. He was born on February 14, 1939, in Bartow County, the son of the late William P. Cochran and Collene Cochran.Jake proudly worked for Shaw Industries for 28 years, and after his retirement, he went on to serve families in his community for 15 years at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home in Cartersville. His commitment to helping others was evident in his work and in his life, as he was always quick to offer a kind word or a gesture of goodwill to those around him. Jake was known for his love of Bingo, playing at both Ingles locations every week. He also had a generous spirit, often showing his appreciation for others by baking pies or cobblers for those who had been kind to him.Jake had a deep love for his family, especially his grandsons. He enjoyed attending their baseball games and supporting their travel ball teams. He was fondly remembered by his baseball family—both school and recreational leagues—as a devoted and loyal supporter. He was also an active member of Euharlee Baptist Church, where he found joy in singing from the old red book hymnals. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Jake was a lifelong member of the Euharlee Masonic Lodge #457. His contributions to his community and his family were many, and his absence will be deeply felt.Jake was preceded in death by his parents, William P. and Collene Cochran; his brothers and sister-in-law, Don and Marcella Cochran, and Harold Cochran; his sisters, Louise Willis and Dot Elrod Greene; and his grandson, Daley Moore.He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Joan Nelson Cochran of Cartersville; two children, Todd Cochran of Adairsville, and Natalie and Gary Wallin of Cartersville; stepchildren, Jason and Connie Arp of Cartersville, and Kathy and Dennis Buchan of Euharlee. He is also survived by his sister, Donna and Gary Howren of Cartersville; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will all miss him dearly.A funeral service will be held Monday, December 23, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Euharlee Baptist Church with Mr. Parnick Jennings and Rev. Billy Jones officiating. The One Touch quartet will provide special music. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, where Jake will be honored with military honors and full Masonic rites. Pallbearers will include Zaylen Cochran, Brendan Cochran, Maddox Teems, David Cochran, Eric Cochran, Chris Cochran, Rusty Cochran, Dean Cochran and Scotty Moore. Current and former employees of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and their spouses will serve as honorary pallbearers and are asked to meet at the church at 2:45 PM on Monday. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who have supported them during this time. Arrangements are under the care of Mr. Parnick Jennings and Georgia Funeral Care, 4671 S. Main Street, Acworth, GA 30101.Jake’s warmth, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family and community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith that will continue to inspire those he touched.
