It is with heavy hearts we are sharing that John J. Devaney, 69, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024. We find peace knowing his suffering from cancer ended as he was surrounded by love and nature.
John was born August 8, 1954, in NY to John and Dorothy Devaney as one of 8 children. He was able to live in a few places before settling down in Cartersville, GA.
Never able to sit still, John was a man full of life. He was always up for an adventure, especially outdoors, whether by foot, motorcycle, or kayak. Although he prided himself on being a hard worker and an avid pickler – John’s legacy will be his vibrant spirit and his way of showing love by sharing his appreciation for the simple things in life. He was always entertaining, cooking, and joking around. He was the first to make you a plate, pour you a drink, and always made room for everyone to join in. He’d set the mood with good tunes, a bonfire, and just let the good times roll.
John is survived by his adoring wife, Beth. His children Sarah Parra (Charles), Deanna Devaney, Meagan Devaney, Jack Smith (Alyssa), and Mark Smith (Megan). His grandchildren Isaac, Lilyanna, Donovan, Lincoln, Eli, Ellie, Miles and Maren. His siblings Maureen Nejedly (Anthony), Patricia Zublionis (William), Regina Wallace (James), Joan Veach, Dorothy Freeman (Curt), Thomas Devaney (Lori), Sharon Mueller (Todd). And a countless number of cherished in-laws, nephews, nieces, and other extended family members.
Per John’s request, the family will host a Celebration of Life picnic on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Redtop Mountain Group Shelter #1. The service will begin at 3 pm, with some of his favorite food and beverages being served immediately after for a time of commemoration amongst family and friends.
