Joseph Scott "Joey" McWhorter, age 41, of Cartersville, GA, passed away unexpectedly on December 19, 2024. Joey was born in Opelika, AL and moved to Cartersville at the age of 10. He graduated from Cartersville High School, was a loving husband, devoted father, and a cherished member of his community.
Joey had a deep passion for sports, especially Georgia football and Duke basketball. His enthusiasm for these teams was only matched by his love for animals and his quick wit that brought joy to all who knew him. As a coach with the Bartow County Recreational Sports, Joey dedicated his time and energy to coaching soccer, baseball, football, basketball. Above all, Joey’s greatest love was for his children, and he always made sure they knew how proud he was of them.
Joey is survived by his loving wife, Kimberly, and their children, Will McWhorter, Charlotte McWhorter, and Ethan Cushing. He is also survived by his parents, Harvey and Suzan McWhorter of Cartersville; his brothers Josh (Vanessa) McWhorter and Jacob (Sabrina) McWhorter, both of Kingston; and his in-laws, Jim and Debbie Ruch of Acworth. In addition, Joey is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss his vibrant presence and his kind heart.
A memorial service to honor Joey’s life will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Heritage Baptist Church, 1070 Douthit Ferry Rd., Cartersville, GA. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bank of the Ozarks, 601 Henderson Dr., Cartersville, GA, for the benefit of Joey’s children.
The McWhorter family is being cared for by Mr. Parnick Jennings and Georgia Funeral Care of Acworth, GA.
Joey's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to be a part of his life.,
