Kristina “Krissy” Longyear (nee Smith) died peacefully in her home in Marietta on July 16
th
, 2017 after a long battle with leukemia. She was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her passing.
Krissy was born on April 12
th
, 1969 to Tom and Donna Smith in Ridgeway, Pennsylvania. She was raised in Hockessin, Delaware and graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Biology and a Masters of Education from Wilmington College. In 1995 Krissy married Robert Longyear Jr. and shortly thereafter moved to Marietta, GA where she taught for nearly 15 years at The Wood Acres School and Garrison Mill Elementary.
Krissy, preceded in death by a brother Greg, is survived by her husband of 22 years, Rob, two wonderful children, Robert and Hannah, her parents, brother Jason and his wife, Cheryl, 5 nieces and nephews, and three Godchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Transfiguration Catholic Church (
1815 Blackwell Rd, Marietta, GA 30066) on Thursday, July 20
th
at 11:30 AM. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Kristina Longyear Benefit Memorial Fund. Donations can be made at any Wells Fargo location. The fund will be used to establish a scholarship at Lassiter High School in Krissy’s honor. An alternative is the Leukemia Research Foundation of Delaware (LRFDE 91 Lukens Drive, Suite F, New Castle, DE 19720).
