Larry Camp

Larry Eugene Camp passed away early Saturday morning, Nov. 2, 2024, peacefully at his home in Carrollton, Ga. He was 85 years old. He was born Feb. 26, 1939, in Villa Rica, Ga. He served in the U.S. Navy from July 31, 1956, through Jan. 14, 1960. He did his training on the West Coast and served on the USS Lexington, assigned to Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron 117. He was stationed in Hawaii for most of his career. After being honorably discharged, he returned home to Villa Rica, Ga., and married Brenda Carnes, also of Villa Rica. They had two sons, Mark and Barry. He worked several local jobs before joining the Coca-Cola Company, where he rose to Director of Traffic and Transportation/Fleet Operations, later becoming VP of Coca-Cola of Michigan and Ohio. He eventually left Coca-Cola to start his own trucking company in the early '80s and later several construction businesses, including Ceramic Tile Connection in Carrollton, Ga. After retiring, he worked for Carroll County as a bailiff from 2006 until COVID-19 closed the courts in 2020.
He is preceded in death by several family members, including his parents, Reverend James Herschel Camp and Dallas "Dolly" Viola Kirby-Camp, brother Leonard Camp and wife Essie of Dalton, Thomas Camp and wife Jean of Villa Rica, sister Carrie Nell Camp-Lee and husband Jack of Atlanta, sister-in-law Malinda Hembree Camp of Villa Rica, and brother-in-law Wallace Busby of Conyers. He is also preceded in death by two nephews, John Camp and Kevin Camp, both of Villa Rica.
He is survived by one brother, Lemuel Camp, and one sister, Allie Camp-Busby, both of Villa Rica. He is also survived by his wife of 27 years, Onealia Fincher-Camp; children Lance Cantrell (Abby), Craig Cantrell, and Drew Cantrell, all of the West Palm Beach, Florida area; Mark Camp (Lonell) and Barry Camp (Danette), both of Villa Rica, Ga.; Tisha DeVault of Villa Rica, Ga.; and Tanya Cohran of Douglasville, Ga.; as well as 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Larry had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Journey Fellowship Baptist Church in Bremen, Ga., where he was actively involved in missions, outreach, prayer, and Life Groups.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, November 25th at Journey Fellowship Baptist Church, 409 Center Point Rd., Bremen, Ga., 30110.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm.
At Larry's request, he will be cremated and interred at the Georgia National Military Cemetery in Canton, Ga., at a later date.
