Lydia Eustis Lucas Smith, aged 96 , of Atlanta, Georgia, died January 6, 2018. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, she moved to Atlanta in 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hartwell Kidder Smith of Birmingham, Alabama.
In the past, she was active in many civic, charity and church organizations, both in Birmingham and in Atlanta. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the New England Genealogical Society, and the Junior League of Birmingham. She will be fondly remembered for her love of classical music (especially opera), history and genealogy, and for her curiosity, sharp mind, lively wit, and generosity. She is survived by her daughter, Yeardley Smith Williams (Larry) of Atlanta, her son, Hartwell Kidder Smith (Sharon) of Birmingham, and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Canterbury Court in Atlanta on Friday, January 19, at 11:00 AM. A graveside burial will be held in Birmingham, AL at Elmwood Cemetery for family and close friends on Saturday, January 20 at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canterbury Court Scholarship Fund at 3750 Peachtree Rd, Atlanta, GA 30319, or the charity of your choice.
