Orren Wade Williams

Orren Wade Williams passed away on Saturday September 9th 2017. Hewas born January 18th 1948 to Ethel Irene Carson and Laroy Wade Williams. He issurvived by his younger brother, Robert Williams, and his two children: SarahElizabeth Williams and Daniel Wade Williams.

Orren served in the Navy during the Vietnam War during 1969 to1974. He earned a B.S. in Engineering Sciences at LSU (1975), a M.S. in NuclearEngineering at LSU (1976), and a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering at Georgia Tech(1978). Orren taught Mechanical Engineering at Southern Polytechnic StateUniversity for 27 years before retiring, 1978 to 2003. Orren also served as aCobb County Sheriff's Deputy, reaching the rank of Captain before retiring in2003. After retiring for 5 years, Orren decided to continue teaching bybuilding an Engineering Track at Wheeler High School. He taught at Wheeler from2007 to 2016.

Orren was extremely active at Atlanta Yacht Club, includingserving as commodore .  Orren went on to sail nearly every type of boatthat had a fleet at AYC: Thistle, Snipe, Y-Flyer, Laser, 420, and even the Opti(there are pictures to prove it). He took his passion for teaching and becamein integral part to all the sailing courses offered at AYC, becoming the headof the Adult Sailing Courses offered in the Spring and Fall seasons.
