Ralph Truett Rundle was born October 13, 1935, in Amarillo, TX, and passed away on March 1, 2025, in Atlanta, GA. He was married to Marie Finley Rundle February 22, 1958, and they shared 67 years together. Ralph is survived by his wife and their two sons, Michael (Melinda Borrero) of Atlanta, GA, and David (Julie Miller) of Santa Barbara, California, as well as his grandchildren, Sara Rundle (Jorge Lopez Centenera), Maya Borrero (Mark Zidan), David Montgomery and Amanda Montgomery.
Ralph earned a BS degree in geology from McNeese State University in 1957 and an MS in engineering geology from Purdue University in 1971. He served in the Army in the Corp of Engineers from 1957 to 1987, retiring as a Colonel. Ralph was a natural leader, and his presence was formidable yet reassuring. He commanded two Companies, and the 82nd Engineer Battalion and the 937th Engineer Group. He also held various significant positions, including Deputy Director of the Engineering School at Fort Belvoir, VA, and head of the USA Engineer Studies Center, Research and Development Division. During his military career, Ralph served two years in Vietnam, one year in Thailand, and five years in Germany. After his military career, Ralph worked as the Executive Director of the Coastal Water Authority, a public utility, in Houston, TX, from 1987 to 2006. He and Marie moved to Atlanta in March 2024 to be near family.
Ralph had a passion for both playing and watching sports, especially football, baseball, and golf. He played football and baseball in high school. He fell in love with golf as a 13-year-old caddy and played regularly throughout his life. He enjoyed playing games and was frequently referred to as a ‘card shark.’ Ralph loved his family, his country, being a Texan, cowboy boots, leather jackets, English bulldogs, and poodles. His friends and family will always remember him fondly through their shared anecdotes and memories. He enjoyed engaging in lively debates with his favorite people, to which he brought a wealth of impressive life experience that was always valued. He also had an uncanny talent for shopping, consistently unearthing the best bargains both for himself and the rest of the family. And lest we forget his magical touch with parking ensured he effortlessly secured prime spots every time, which fondly became known as a “Ralph Rundle Spot”.
