Shirley Mae Freeman Weigel of Paulding County, Georgia, surrounded by her family, was called home Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 4:30 am.
Shirley was born November 22, 1942, in Marietta, Georgia, to John Henry and Minnie Belle Freeman. Shirley attended and completed multiple Nutritional and Family Enrichment courses through the state of Michigan, and was also registered and certified and accomplished school bus driver. Her accomplishments were multiple awards and a two time winner of the Michigan school bus Rodeo Championship. Shirley retired from Cobb County Board of Education. Shirley dedicated over 30 years to the service of children from the safety on the school bus on the most dangerous roads in Michigan to the classrooms she carried for at Cobb County. Wherever Shirley went she was loved by all.
Shirley Mae Freeman Weigel is survived by a sister Janice and Eugene Bryant of Hickory, North Carolina. Sons are Tony Singley of Dallas, Georgia, Vince and Alicia Lane of Dallas, Georgia, Bobby and Sherry Lane of Kennesaw, Georgia. Preceded in death by John G. Lane. Daughters are Julie (Lane) and Thomas Barnes of Dallas, Georgia, and preceded in death Theresa Diane Singley. Grandchildren are John, Sylvia, Justin, Austin, Jordan, Ethan, Macy, Justin, Warner, and Justin Murphy. Preceded in death by Hannah Lane Shirley had many great-grandchildren which she loved.
Services will be held May 25, 2017 with viewing at 12:00pm and services at 2:00pm, at Georgia Funeral Care and Cremation Services, 4671 South Main Street, Acworth, Georgia 30101.
