Virginia Kay Miller, daughter of Leonard Miller and Emma Bell Miller, was born on April 17, 1960 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She attended the public schools of Sharkey County where Virginia was a graduate of Rolling Fork High School. She enlisted in the army during her senior year of high school and was deployed after graduation.
Virginia, also endearingly called Kay Kay, was a quiet soul that was very committed and disciplined in her life. Although she did not communicate much with her words, her actions spoke volumes about her core values: family, discipline, sacrifice, and hard work. Although Virginia never formally joined a church, she was led to Christ by her sister, Judy Awala, on March 29, 2020.
Virginia served in the United States army from 1978 until 1986. When she left the army in 1986, she left as an E-5 with an army commendation medal, good conduct medal, NCO professional development ribbon, army service ribbon, and overseas service ribbon. She later moved to Georgia to live with her sister Judy Awala. During this time, she became a sales clerk at Chevron in Jonesboro, Ga where she worked for over thirty three years. During this time, she impacted the lives of her bosses and customers, but most importantly, her sister Judy Awala, her brother in law Dr. Samuel Awala, and her niece Dr. Samantha Reddick. She quietly left this life Wednesday, April 1st at Nursecare in Buckhead, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Miller; Brother, Leonard Wayne Miller, and Brother Keith Bernard Miller.
Virginia’s impactful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her family: mother, Emma Bell Miller of Valley Park, MS; 3 brothers, Calvin Miller (Lorenza) of Vicksburg, MS; Billy Ray Miller of Las Vegas, Nevada; Michael Jones (Felicia) of Vicksburg, MS; 5 sisters, Mary Shal Reed (Jerome) of Jackson, MS; Shirley Jean Hogan, Las Vegas, NV; Judy Lynn Awala (Samuel) of Riverdale, GA; Jackie Jones of Vicksburg, MS; and Kassandra Jones Davis (Michael) of Rex, GA and 1 aunt Bernice C. Miller of Los Angles, California. Virginia will also be remembered by a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
