JoAnne L. Namy, 78, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021.


JoAnne was born on March 20, 1943, to Angela and John Robb in Pittsburgh, PA. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Northwestern University, and completed graduate work in English Literature and Education at Duquesne University.


JoAnne dedicated her life to supporting others as an educator, nurturing mentor, and leader in a variety of roles, and retired from Indiana University after 38 years of service. JoAnne will be remembered for her energy and enthusiasm, her commitment to her family, and her love of hosting and organizing festive gatherings of her dear friends.


JoAnne was predeceased by her father John and her mother Angela. She is survived by her daughters Laura Namy and Tanya Saunders (Greg), her grandchildren Cassie, DJ, Logan, and Tessa, her great-granddaughter Keima, her siblings Jack (Karen), Kathy (Joe), and Karen, and her sister-in-law Jackie. A Celebration of Life will be held in Bloomington at a future date to be determined.


The family invites gifts in JoAnne’s memory to be given to either of two organizations that she cherished, the IU Kelley School of Business’s Brian D. Jellison Living Learning Center, or P.E.O. Indiana Chapter EV’s Program for Continuing Education.
