Sam Davis Dewar, Jr., 72, of Bethel, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 30th in Cartersville, GA. Born in Tarboro, North Carolina to parents Sam and Thadys Dewar, Sam lived most of his life in Bethel, NC, Albany, GA, Atlanta, GA, and West Palm Beach, FL. Sam graduated from Duke University and remained an avid Duke basketball fan thereafter. He received his MBA from Wharton School of Business and during his professional career led a division of Pepperidge Farm, served as VP of Marketing at Uncle Ben’s division of Mars, Inc. and later became President of Snackmaster, developing the ‘Combos’ snack product. Sam was always an entrepreneur at heart. He continually thought of new business and product ideas throughout his life, bringing many of those ideas to fruition. He was a TCBY franchisee, founder of Dewar’s Fine Foods, and founder of Natural Harmony Foods. Sam will be remembered as a loving father and dear brother, a warm-hearted man who cherished his family relationships. He found the humor in every situation and never let the challenges of life cap the possibilities he saw before him. Sam is survived by his four children; Heather McCarthy, Andrew Dewar, John Dewar and Cameron Dewar and his siblings Don Dewar and Alta Jean Parsons. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Carson. Thank you to Waldrop Assisted Living and members of Sanctuary for their loving care and support.
