Anne Grace Hildreth of Marietta passed away on June 9, 2022, after a battle with cancer. She was born in Ozark, Alabama on May 10, 1929, the oldest daughter of James and Belle Grace. She attended Birmingham Southern University where she participated in student government and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She and her husband Lloyd and their two children, Lloyd Jr., and Bridget, moved to Marietta in 1954 for Lloyd’s employment at Lockheed. Anne’s working years included rearing four children, teaching in several Marietta city schools, and teaching and managing the kindergarten for the Marietta First United Methodist Church. She retired after serving 16 years as the business administrator for the same church.
Anne treasured her career, her service to the church, and her participation in church activities prior to and during her employment years. She was involved in the youth program, youth camp, United Church Women, History and Archives, the church expansion and building programs, Sunday school, the Administrative Board, and the Board of Trustees. Anne demonstrated her love of the community by serving on the Marietta City Board of Education, the Cobb Arts Commission, and the Georgia Ballet Board of Directors and Trustees. She enjoyed reading, needlework, and designing and constructing elaborate costumes for the Georgia Ballet. She loved trips to the beach with the “Florida Group”, her couples bridge club, and most of all, time with her family.
Anne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband Lloyd of 72 years, her children Lloyd Hildreth, Jr (Traci), Bridget Altolaguirre (Martin), Sharon Farley (Bill), Marvin Hildreth (Tammy), 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Roxie Lancaster and Janis Strength. To honor her wishes, a private burial of her ashes and a service will be held in the family plot in Enterprise, Alabama. A celebration of her outstanding life is being planned for a later date. Those desiring may make a memorial gift in Anne Hildreth’s name to the Marietta First United Methodist Church.
