Danny Owen Thomas passed from this life on to his reward on his 84th birthday, January 27th, 2020. He was never alone in his final moments before he walked on to be with those that passed before him.
Dad left a legacy of love, caring and compassion behind that set a high bar for us to try to live up to in his absence. Those that knew him, even for a moment, knew him to be a kind, sweet person. Rarely is there a person that walks this earth that has never known an enemy.
His grandkids grew up in a house filled with love as they witnessed the perfect love that a marriage could offer. They all had the rare experience of feeling that they were the favorite grandchild and at the time, there was no more important little person in their lives than that grandchild that was before them. They were all their favorites. Grandma and Grandpa’s house was always a magical place where they could learn about the love of Christ and be entertained by seeing their grandparents transform into little children for them. There were great games of basketball, board games, cards, fishing or even sliding down the stairs in a cardboard box into a pile of pillows. Their grandparents weren’t just coming up with these ideas, they were in the cardboard box with them!
God provided them with a large family that knew the door was always open to them or anyone needing a place to stay. Some of those stays being long term but they always considered their house as God’s house and you felt it.
They gave love freely to those needing a hug or a grandchild needing their back tickled.
God saw fit to reunite them on his birthday and we are all certain of the great reunion that took place. We believe that God allowed those that walked on to be waiting for him and greeting him with loud cheers and hugs before he ran into the waiting arms of Jesus where he finally heard, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Dad was survived by his children, Brenda Akers, Danyelle Cole, Paul Thomas and Jen Andrew. His son Steve was awaiting him in Heaven. Also survived by his grandchildren Dusty Rhodes, Keri Allen, Willie Jack Thomas, Natalie Porter, Jackie Thomas, Stephen French, Zach French, Tommy French, Emily Cole, Samantha Neill, Michaela Thomas, Jessica Thomas, Alyssa Thomas, Wachesga Jackson, Jhani Jackson, Moana Andrew and Keone Andrew. Dad and Mom also had 12 great grandchildren that they loved dearly.
His celebration service will be held at Countryside Christian Church in Keizer, Oregon and graveside service to be held for family only at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Eugene, Oregon where his ashes will be joining his devoted wife’s body in a shared grave. Their lives were a true love story.
