Dewi (J.D.) Wilson passed away peacefully May 14, 2018 after a blessedly short bout with terminal cancer. He was 77 years old. The Wilson family moved from Glendale, CA to Marietta, GA where Dewi attended Dodd Street Elementary and Marietta High Schools. While at MHS he was a member of the Pitchfork staff and was a long-time band member, graduating with honors. During his MHS years, Dewi played piano for services at both the Christian Science and Mormon churches of Marietta. He was awarded a Lockheed scholarship to Vanderbilt University where he earned both bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in French, again with honors. A highlight of his Vandy experience was being a member of the team representing Vanderbilt on the GE College Bowl TV quiz show.
Later in life Dewi obtained a Master of Library Science from Clark Atlanta University School of Library & Information Studies. After receiving this degree he embarked on a career in library work beginning with the Atlanta Jimmy Carter Library, moving to the Cobb County Library, and ultimately spending 25 years with Kennesaw State University as an instructional librarian, Professor of Library Science. While at KSU he also obtained a bachelor’s in history.
Preceded in death by his parents, Bette and Larry Wilson of Marietta, Dewi leaves behind his brother Mark of Augusta, cousins Alice Wilson Abram and Edna Wilson Burow of California, along with many friends from all periods of his life who wish him well in his new ventures. A memorial gathering will be held in late August. Condolences can be left at www.GeorgiaFuneralCare.com
