Edward Thomas “Eddie” Woods, Sr.

Edward Thomas “Eddie” Woods, Sr. age 91, beloved husband of Jacqueline “Jackie” Woods for 69 years, died peacefully in his home on February 25th in Atlanta, Georgia.

Son of the late Dennis Matthew Woods and Florence Saunders Woods.  Preceded in death by his brothers William “Bill”, Dennis, James “Jimmy”, and John “Johnny” and his sisters, Ellen Woods Bernhardt and Florence Woods Rabotinsky.

He is survived by Jackie and their six children: Edward Jr. (wife Jennifer), Craig Paul (Kathy, children Craig Michael (Molly), Shannon Woods Harrell (Jonthomas) and Ryan (Fabiola), Warren John (partner Stephen), Mary Louise Woods Martone (husband James, child Nicole Martone Steinmuller (Rob)) Florence Ann and Christopher George (Patty, children Alison, Christopher and Bonnie) and his sister Jane Alice Woods LeBlanc.

Eddie was the Great Grandfather of Cora Belle and Cooper Warren Woods, Gavin Harrell and Skyler Harrell (wife Mackenzie) and he was a Great Great Grandfather to their daughter Ava Grace.  Eddie is also survived by many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to list but not forgotten.

In 1950, Eddie married Jackie Behlmer in Manhattan, New York where they and four of their children were born.  The twins were born after they moved to Brentwood, Long Island. Over the years, Eddie and Jackie resided in parts of Florida, New Orleans and Atlanta. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, Junior High School 43 in Manhattanville, University of New York and was graduated from C. W. Post College.

Eddie was a World War II Veteran, enlisting in the Merchant Marines in 1944 when he was only 16 years old, serving in the Pacific and Atlantic War Zones.  He earned the Philippine Liberation Medal and the Combat Ribbon for action with the enemy.

He worked for many years as the Manager of the Museum Shop of The American Museum of Natural History and later in Real Estate.

He was a voracious reader and a student of history, instilling these traits unto his family.  Jackie and Ed traveled many times to Europe, especially enjoying Ireland, England and Spain and throughout Australia.  He visited six of the seven continents with Antarctica still on his bucket list. He was the undisputed Jeopardy Champion of the family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, February 28 at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta.  Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave., Chattanooga, TN, at 1:00 PM.

The family is very grateful to Michele Boyd Leblanc and Pattie Church for being angels and to the staff at Campbell Stone for their support and the care provided by Vitas Hospice.
