Mrs. Elaine E. Eager, 76, resident of Cartersville, GA passed away September 3, 2018.
Elaine was born May 21, 1942 in Worcester, MA. She was preceded in death by her parents Leopaul and Jeanette Snyder.
After moving to Georgia in 1980, she married her late husband, Edward “Shorty” Eager; the man behind the banjo in whom she had great admiration. Together, with their band mates, “Elaine and Shorty & The Grass Kats” delighted bluegrass enthusiasts along the Eastern seaboard with their acclaimed, traditional sounds. Elaine was an accomplished singer, songwriter, guitarist and a founding member of the Southeast Bluegrass Association (SEBA). In 2007, Elaine and her late husband were inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame. Aside from her love for music, Elaine was an accomplished seamstress, a talented artist in plastic canvas and crocheted afghans. After 11 years of service, she retired from the Paulding County Board of Education as a school bus driver.
Elaine - wife, daughter, sister and mother - will be fondly remembered by her four children: Mike (Terry) Newberry of Canton, GA; Cheryl (Scott, fiancé) Newberry of Cartersville, GA; Dan (Pam) Newberry of Lilburn, GA; and Charley (Candice) Newberry of Cary, NC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Michael (Holly) Newberry, Heather Newberry, Amy (Carlos) Colon-Velez, Chris (Natalie) Newberry, Caroline Newberry, Addison Newberry, Reece Newberry, Jennifer Newberry and three great grandchildren Braden, Marina and Breanna. She will also be lovingly remembered by sister Louise (Jimmy) White; Nephews Gary, Robin, Jody, Steven, Scott, David; Special friends Bruce and Carol Simms, Terry and Kathy Thompson and Bert Crapps. Elaine was preceded in death by sister Jeanne Allen, brother Richard Snyder and nephews Kevin Gourley & Kerry Drake.
Elaine’s celebration of life will be held at Georgia Funeral Care, 4671 S. Main Street, Acworth, GA 30101 on September 8, 2018 at 11am.
