From the Granddaughters

Known to most as “Betty”, affectionately referred to as “Cook” by her brother Essic, she was a force of nature. Strong in spirit, outspoken and strong in her convictions, devoted to community service, and fiercely loved her family…especially her Puddin.

We know she is celebrating with all of her siblings and loved ones that she often spoke fondly of in remembrance.

What a legacy you have given us of serving God, love of family, and what a blessing we were given when God gave us you.

We remember everything you taught us.

Rest easy with no worries about us, your work here is well done Gramma and we will meet again and have a joyous reunion!

Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth Dozier

The hourglass with its sands of time has spilled its contents and with the passing of the last grain of sand went the life of Mrs. Elizabeth Joyner Dozier.

Elizabeth was the 4th of four children born to Edward and Eulaila Harris in Lee County, North Carolina.

Three brothers Charles, Frank, and Essic preceded her in death.

At an early age, Elizabeth accepted Christ in the 1930s at Bethlehem AME Church, where she remained until she graduated from James B. Dudley Highschool in 1941. After finishing high school she moved to Chicago to join her brothers. In Chicago, she joined Warren Ave Methodist Church.

Elizabeth was united in holy matrimony to Admiral Lee Joyner, and to this union, a daughter, Sharone, was born.

Admiral Lee Joyner preceded Elizabeth in death in 1968.

Elizabeth relocated back to Greensboro, North Carolina in 1992 where she joined Bethel AME under the leadership of Rev Benjamin J. Foust.

She believed strongly in community service and was a member of the Sarah Allen Missionary Unit.

Elizabeth was the proud grandmother of two granddaughters, Parish Thomas and Braizsheen Farris.

Her daughter, Sharone, who she affectionately called Puddin, was her devoted companion and caregiver throughout her life.

On the day she passed, this gentle and sweet soul slipped away to meet her Savior.

Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sharone Thomas, her granddaughter Parish Thomas of McDonough, Georgia, Braizsheen Farris of Greensboro, North Carolina, 2 great-granddaughters, Zaire and Aria of McDonough, Georgia, one niece of Burlington, North Carolina, four nephews of Chicago, Illinois, and a host of cousins, and relatives.

A Tribute to my Mother

I am grateful, I am fortunate, I am highly blessed, to have had such a beautiful, strong, and Godly mother, who was a great mother and a grand lady.

She believed in commitment, responsibility, and devotion to family, friends, and community.

Now my dear, sweet mother, you are absent from the body, but present with our Lord.

I love you mother now and for all eternity and will deeply miss your laugh, your smile, your words of encouragement, your physical presence, and may God forever keep his loving arms around you.

You have always been my hero, my example of the woman I should strive to be, and truly the wind beneath my wings.

I love you always and forever, Momma.

Though we know you had to go, we did not want you to go, and now we must carry on as you would have us do.

With that, Gramma’s Message to us:
