George Chapline Reed Jr

George Chapline "Chap" Reed Jr. 66 of Marietta, Georgia went to be with his Lord peacefully at home on October 24 with his beloved wife and several loved ones by his side.

It was on August 23, 1957 in Orlando, Florida that the Lord blessed George Chapline Reed and Elizabeth Huntington (West) Reed with the gift of a son. He was raised in central Orlando and attended High school at Boone High School. While he was in high school, he was active on the cross-country track and football teams.

He graduated Boone High School in 1976 and continued his education at Auburn University majoring in accounting. While at Auburn he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He graduated from Auburn in 1980 and was a faithful War Eagle supporter from that time forward.

His first job was when he was 13 at the Lerner shop in downtown Orlando. His father helped him get this job as this is where he worked. He was responsible for loading and unloading the inventory boxes. He wanted this job so he could get an early start saving money for his first car. When he was 16, he purchased an MG midget with the money he had saved.

His second job was at Walt Disney World at the Aristocrats Gift shop in Cinderella's Castle. He also worked at several other shops in the Magic Kingdom until he left for college. Once he graduated from Auburn he began working as a CPA in the Orlando area for a short time before moving to the Atlanta area.

In the Atlanta area he began working for Georgia Tool Distributors until he began his career building homes. From this time forward he dedicated his life to building the most amazing homes. No detail was ever spared. When he finished a home, he took so much delight in watching the families explore it and watching the children pick out their new bedrooms. He was also a member of the National Home Builders Association.

It was on December 12, 1991, in Marietta, Georgia that he was united in marriage to Kristen Downing. To this union they were blessed with three sons. One of his greatest joys was doing things with his family. As his boys were growing up, he was very involved with all of their activities. He coached many of their football and baseball teams. He also enjoyed participating in scouting expeditions.

When he had extra time, he also enjoyed spending as much time at any beach he could find and traveling with his beautiful wife. Some of his favorite trips were to Napa Valley, Niagara Falls, going up the east coast, and the US Virgin Islands. If he wasn't at the beach or traveling, you might find him playing golf, hunting, or fishing.

Chap was always a perfect gentleman, very giving of his time and treasures, and a devoted husband, dad and friend.

Chap is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years Kristen; his boys George Chapline "CJ" Reed and wife Nicole of Naples, Florida; Stephen Dwight Reed and wife Carissa of Cummings, Georgia; and Addison Tinsley Reed and wife Erin of Acworth, Georgia; Sister Rochelle Parker of Tallahassee, Florida; Nephew Emory Parker and wife Colleen of Jacksonville, Florida, and nieces Olivia and Tinsley Parker

A Celebration of Life is planned for 2:00pm Friday, November 3, 2023 at Northstar Church, 3413, Blue Springs Road, Kennesaw, Georgia.
