Gilbert RAnderson was born to Scottish immigrants on Aug 3, 1929 in Maspeth Queens NY.He was delivered at home by a midwife and was one of 9 children. He died atWellStar Tranquility Hospice, Austell Georgia on Jan 27, 2020 at the age of 90.His life journeys led him to an interesting life. He enlisted in the USMC atthe age of 16 in 1945 only to go through bootcamp and WWII ended. He was calledback to active duty in 1950 for the Korean (Conflict), shipped to Korea wherehe was hit with mortar fire from the Chinese and incurred a traumatic braininjury and received a purple heart medal. He landed a career with Grumman Aerospaceand became a member of the team that built and maintained the LEM, that landedon the moon, at Kennedy space Center during the Apollo program from 1966- 1972and retired after 38 years. He had overcome a lot of obstacles in his life,cancer of the Larynx and post-traumatic stress syndrome, long before it wasrecognized. He was a true mentor and father for our family. He is survived by sons John (Susan), Steve(Gloria) and Daughter Nancy Anderson, Grandson Colby (Leslie) Burtt, Granddaughter Samantha Anderson, Great Grand children Connor and Scott McCrary.Preceded in death, his wife of 51 years Joan Anderson, and son David Anderson. A private service willbe held at the Veterans National Cemetery in Canton Georgia where he and Joan’sashes will be laid to rest.
