Gordon James Hancock, age 73, of Acworth, GA, died June 24, 2018 after a battle with cancer, with his family by his side. Gordon was born December 7, 1944 in Blue Ridge, GA, the second of eight children to Willard & Irene Hancock. Gordon was a retired truck driver and also did construction work throughout his life. He loved his family, was loved by many, and will be missed dearly.
Gordon is survived by his longtime companion of over 20 years, Dorothy Benson of Acworth; daughter and son in law, Lisa & Jamie Abernathy of Taylorsville; two grandsons, T.J. Parson of Woodstock, GA, and Austen Parson and wife, Logan, of Rome, GA; one great granddaughter, Aubree Parson, of Rome, GA.
Gordon also leaves behind sisters, Betty Holden (and husband Charles) of Canton and Ruth Fair of California; brothers William “WT” Hancock of Acworth, Wayland “Chester” Hancock of Cartersville, Wendell “Scooter” Hancock of Acworth, Michael “Yogi” Hancock of Acworth, and David “Harry”(and wife Barbara) Hancock of Kennesaw. Gordon also had many nieces and nephews he loved to nickname and pick at that he loved very much.
A memorial service will be held on July 7, 2018, 3:00 PM, at the Christian Praise Center, 1534 Sixes Rd., Canton, GA 30114.
