Janice Ballenger Traylor was born September, 8th 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia. She spent most of her youth in Jackson, Georgia with her sister, Almeda Bishop, mother, Mildred Smith along with her aunts and uncles. She often spoke of being gone all day long riding her horse with her sister and friends. She spoke of so many times where she would memorize poetry and perform those poems for her family.
Janice went on to attend West Georgia College where she met and later married Jim Traylor of Meansville, Georgia. While at West Georgia she decided she wanted to become an educator. She specifically wanted to teach English Literature. She landed her first teaching job at Campbell High School in 1969.
She later helped open a new Cobb County school, Lassiter High School in 1981. She also had a daughter in 1981, Alison. Over her entire career she had the opportunity to be a teacher, a department head, and an administrator. She was in her element as an administrator. She loved her job! She spoke highly of her students and colleagues.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Alison Plumley and Alison’s family including her husband Lee Plumley and their two sons, Keegan and Pratt. She is also survived by her sister Almeda Bishop, cousin Mary Sue Crittenden, and Mary Sue’s son, Bill Crittenden and his sons, Reid and Liam Crittenden. She will be incredibly missed by many people. Janice passed away on October 8th, 2023 in Acworth, Georgia.
