John Luckie
August 4, 1944 - May 3, 2023
Acworth, GA
John Edward Luckie, southern gentlemen, dapper dresser, and passionate culinary artist left us on May 3, 2023 in order to grab a seat at the best table in the spiritual world. John Luckie, known to some as Uncle Georgia, was born on August 4, 1944, in Biloxi, MS of the late Early and Jane Luckie, siblings including brother, Thomas Luckie (wife Ernestine).
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Vietnam as a combat pilot. In total, he served 14 years and attained the rank of Captain. John, a well-educated man, earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, as well as a masters in Aviation Safety from the University of Southern California. He was also poised and eloquent and with his razor-sharp wit, became an incredible fundraiser and program developer, raising millions for communities across the country that benefited diverse groups.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Luckie (Dunson) and three children: Meredith Luckie, J. Drew Luckie, and Amanda Luckie Rawlins. He is also survived by his six grandchildren: Piper, Caden, Grace, Garrison, Reece and Remy.
John had an unquenchable thirst for life, enjoyed hosting parties, and always making you feel at home. He was the host with the most: greeting you at the door with grace and style who loved to cook delicious food (and drinks!). His joyful personality created laughter amongst everyone, having us all dancing and singing to Jimmy Buffett until the wee hours of the morning.
Services will be held at Georgia Funeral Care on May 10th at 4671 South Main Street in Acworth, GA. Visitation will take place at 11:30 am, followed by a service at 12:30 pm. Interment will take place at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Golden Retriever Rescue of Atlanta and All Saints Episcopal Church, Atlanta General Fund.
John, we hope you are enjoying your Cheeseburger in Paradise!
