John Linkenauger peacefully passed away at home in Marietta, GA on June 12, 2022. He was 90 and 6 months as he would say. He was diligent in mentioning the 6 months.
John is survived by: his son JW Linkenauger (Jean) of Silver Spring, MD, daughter Jana Madera (Russ) of Mount Holly, NC, and son-in-law Bart Vickerman (husband to John’s daughter Jill, recently deceased) of Marietta, GA. John is also survived by his siblings Tom Linkenhoger, Gene Linkenhoger, Patrick Linkenhoger, and Marie Spears. His surviving grandchildren are Lauren Linkenauger, Jayce Madera, and Christian Madera. He is preceded in death by his parents Bert and Madeline Linkenhoger, his brother Jake Linkenhoger, great-granddaughter Bailea Harrell, and grandsons Justin Harrell and Tyler Linkenauger.
John was born in West Virginia on November 1, 1931. He worked for Westinghouse / CGR Medical Corp. and ultimately retired from the General Electric-Medical division in 1996. When John retired, GE had to discontinue three models of X-Ray equipment as John was the only person qualified to understand how they operated. A very hard worker, John could fix just about anything. He continuously studied tech books to stay current and at the top of his field. He enjoyed telling how he once repaired an X-Ray machine simply by using a blow dryer. Nothing else had worked so he thought, “Why not?” Of course he didn’t let any of the other technicians in on the secret.
John will fondly be remembered for his love of playing cards, smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee, and wearing a brown overcoat, regardless of the weather.
