On Saturday, September 18, 2021, John Byron Shores, III, 76, left this mortal life. He was born June 24, 1945, to Dorothy Atkins and John B. Shores, Jr. in Logan, Utah, the eldest of their 4 children. Regardless of where he lived, the words “Cache Valley” were always spoken with audible joy. The family settled in Carlsbad, NM where John was once a toddler tied to the porch so he wouldn’t wander from the yard. He jumped the slow-moving freight trains to shorten the distance to Edison Elementary School and graduated from Carlsbad Senior High School in 1963. John attended classes at Brigham Young University before joining the National Guard and securing an IBEW electrical apprenticeship with Gibbs Electric in Carlsbad. He loved drag racing and worked in Dickie Harrell’s pit until the winning driver suggested he focus on the love of his life. He married her, Winifred Anne McCormick, on June 4, 1968, in Carlsbad. The couple was sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints the following year.
John’s career as an electrician and electrical engineer took him and the family to locations around the globe; he and Win have called Georgia home for the past 5 years. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many capacities, including temple worker in the Atlanta Temple. Family history and genealogy were his favorite hobbies because he did them with Win.
He loved discussing the gospel of Jesus Christ, teaching others, and had a firm testimony of his Savior. A dedicated husband, father, and Papa, John, and Win have 8 children and 18 grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jennifer Jo Shores Kiddle. He is survived by his wife, Winifred; children, Anne (Scott) Burns, Nicki Shores, Katherine (Mike) Judd, Sarah (Craig) Dempsey, John (Jamiee) Shores, Kelly (Justin) DeMone, Levi (Andy) Shores; 18 grandchildren; siblings Cindy, Michael, and David; and numerous extended family.
Viewing and funeral service will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021, at the LDS Chapel, 870 Peeples Valley Rd, Cartersville, Georgia 30121. Viewing begins at 10 AM; service will start at noon. John will be interred at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Acworth. Flowers and condolences are being received by Georgia Funeral Care, 4671 S. Main St., Suite 110, Acworth, Georgia 30101.
