Joseph “Joe” Thomas Loper, 77, of Acworth, GA passed away on March 16th, 2020 at his home. Wife Doreen Loper and daughter Bridget Loper predecease Joe. He is survived by his grandson, Dominic Loper of Acworth, GA. and daughters Casey Loper of Atlanta, GA, and Melissa Ryan of Oklahoma City, OK.
Joe was born on Oct. 29th, 1942 to Odis and Ruby Loper in Oklahoma City, OK. He is one of four children with brothers Donald Loper, Wallace Loper, and sister Gail (Loper) Shipley. He attended Northwestern High School and graduated in 1961. He was part of the Phi lambda Epsilon who described Joe as someone who liked to wrestle and have good time on Friday nights with his fraternity brothers.
Joe later became part of the Air Force from 1961 to 1964 stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina as part of the 2020th Communication Squadron. He served as a Communications Center Specialist.
Joe was a great provider for his family and gave them the life he felt they deserved. He was married to his wife Doreen for 28 years, who also was very giving and loving to her family. They raised Bridget and Casey together and were proud and supportive of them. He took care of and loved his grandson Dominic very much. He was a supportive father and grandfather who wanted the best for his family. His family was important to him, something he often mentioned.
Joe enjoyed listening to Big Band music, watching Steve Martin movies, playing poker and dominoes, talking about wrestling, and eating his favorite foods which included oysters, crab legs, and steak. He retired from the United States Postal Service where he was cherished by many of his co-workers who describe him as a good man and someone who would always provide a laugh.
There will a veteran service at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga and other details are still being worked out. Date/time of services are pending due to current crowd and travel restrictions.
