Mary Katherine Pennington was born on September 27, 1952 in Atlanta, Georgia, and passed away on December 11, 2020 from chronic liver disease and complications associated with COVID-19. She was a caring sister, a loving and supportive aunt, and a loyal friend to those that included her in their lives. Mary had close bonds with her parents Emily and Marcus Pennington, both of whom have passed, and was a wonderful daughter. Her love for cats was well known. For many years Mary was the constant companion to a sweet tabby named Rosie, and later a gray kitty called Juliette.
Atlanta was Mary’s home. She grew-up in Dunwoody North and graduated from Chamblee High School. Later, she attended Georgia State University where she earned a B.A. in Journalism. After college Mary moved to Sandy Springs. She worked several sales and survey positions during her life and enjoyed talking with people. It was her love of conversation that led her to connect with others on a wide range of topics, with some of her favorites being: pop culture, rock and folk music, movies and television series (recent favorite, “The Good Doctor”), historical fiction, beauty care and products, and MLS soccer (discussed with her nephew).
Mary will be greatly missed by her sister (Paula Mohseni), brother-in-law (Hossein Mohseni), niece (Layla Mohseni), nephew (Cameron Mohseni), cousins, friends and many others. We will always keep her in our hearts. Due to COVID-19, there will not be at viewing or any services held at the funeral home. A virtual memorial honoring Mary and celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 7:00 pm EST (5:00 pm MST).
