Michael Cortez, age 77, went to his eternal rest on February 2, 2023. He passed peacefully surrounded by family. He went by many names: Mike, Mikey, Uncle Mike, Dad and Boompa (the name his grandchildren called him).
He could talk to anyone and once you met him, you were not going to forget him. He had a great sense of humor and love for life. In his life he had been a mortician, sold insurance, and most recently a substitute teacher, which he loved! He is the son of the late Alfonso and Juliet Cortez and was preceded in death by his brothers Al, Jr. and Eddie. Survived by his loving wife, Georgia, married 54 years proud father of his daughters Michaelyn (husband, Patrick) and Christina (husband, Daniel); his sisters, Julie and Becky; doting grandfather to Abbey, Cullen, Evie and Drew. He leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and long-time friends. Mike received a heart transplant in January 26, 2009 from Matthew Dillian Hunter, age 16, he was always grateful, as we all are, to the extra 14 years we were able to have with him. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, 2:00 PM, and will be LiveStreamed via Zoom at this link https://us06web.zoom.us/j/8561271071 in the chapel of Georgia Funeral Care, Acworth, GA. The family will receive friends for visitation time prior to the service from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery, in Acworth, GA.
