Michael David Keener, 72, of Woodstock, formerly of Marietta, died suddenly at home on February 2, 2018. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Susan Smith Keener; his sons, David (Emily) Keener of Acworth, Andrew (Tara) Keener of Orange, VA, and Lee (Ann) Keener of Knoxville, TN; his sister, Donna (Louie) Keeling of Powell, TN; his granddaughter, Edie; his sister-in-law, Carol (Larry) Lay of Morristown, TN; his brother-in-law, Fred (Nancie) Smith of Alpharetta, GA; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris P’Simer Keener; his sister, Karen Keener; and his grandson, Alex Keener.
Michael was born in Charleston, WV, on November 14, 1945. Growing up, his mother was his hero, and his grandfather, Orville P’Simer, was like a father to him. He attended East Tennessee State University, where he was president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and graduated in 1968 with a degree in graphic design. He served in the Army from 1970-72 and was awarded an Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service during his time stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
After the Army, Michael embarked on a pharmaceutical sales career that spanned almost 40 years. From 1990 to 2010, he was the director of Sunrise Medications & Infusion Pharmacy in Lexington, South Carolina. He loved what he did and loved the people he worked with and greatly missed both after his retirement.
The family will receive friends starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16, at Georgia Funeral & Cremation Services in downtown Acworth, with the service immediately following at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
Above all else, Michael enjoyed telling other people what they should do.
