On Saturday, October 31, Milton William Rampley Sr., 89, of Acworth, Georgia passed away at his home, surrounded by family.
Milton was born on January 29, 1931 in Tucker, Georgia to Albert Milton and Frances Williams Rampley. He joined the United States Navy in January 1951 as an engineer. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in December 1954. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Milton married Martha Sue Casey on July 2, 1955. They settled in Acworth and had five children, four girls and one boy. He had a natural gift for math and geometry, and for over 40 years, he worked as a carpenter, constructing homes and apartments from Virginia to Texas. He was generous to share these skills with his friends and family, helped his children with everything from building homes to erecting treehouses.
Milton blessed all the people in his life with joy, laughter, and companionship. He was a good-natured tease, known for his quick wit and signature wink. He greeted his grandchildren with a gentle pinch to their cheek, and to them he will always be their Pawpaw. Even as dementia took his mind, his kindness, patience, and sensitivity endured.
Milton spent many summers fishing on Lake Acworth and Lake Allatoona with his children. He had a weakness for red trucks and was an avid coin collector. He loved music from the 1950s; even in his final years, he would light up at the sound of Eddy Arnold, Jimmy Reeves, or Dean Martin and sing along.
Milton is survived by his loving wife of sixty five years, Martha; their five children: Debbie Randall (Hank), Sandra Gambrell (Ted), Melissa Payne (Mike), Milton Rampley Jr. (Sharon), and Kathy Yarbrough (Steve); ten grandchildren; and six great grandchildren with two more on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Polly and Mary, and brother Bobby.
Milton’s ashes will be placed in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton on Monday November 9th (immediate family only). A memorial service will follow at 1pm at Georgia Funeral Care in Acworth, but during this time of COVID attendees must be limited to relatives.
