Funeral mass on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 2:00 pm, at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 6301 Cedarcrest Road, Acworth, GA 30101, and will be live streamed on St. Clare’s YouTube channel.  Reception to follow at the church.

Patricia (“Pat”) Annette Cody nee Neely was born in New York, NY on September 22, 1933.  She was raised in Staten Island and Manhattan and graduated from Commerce High School in 1951.  While working in New York City as an office girl and bookkeeper, she met John (“Jack”) Cody at a college fraternity party.  Jack and Pat married in January 1958 during Jack’s winter break and lived in New York City for several years.  Once the kids started to come along, they moved to New Jersey, and later they lived in Singapore, Cincinnati, and Atlanta.  They were married for 56 years until Jack passed away in August 2014.  Pat is survived by her sister, Grace Sperber (Victor); her four children, Deirdre Brekke, Shivahn Rowell (Dennis), Bridget Cody (Barry Madison), and Shawn Cody (Sandra); her seven grandchildren Fionna Powers (Tommy), Thomas Brekke, Móirín Cody, Caitlin DiLascio (Tony), Molly Brekke (Alex Zaritovski), Megan Rowell ( Uili Ikaleo Lai’atea Manu), and John Brekke; and her great-grandchild, Annette Powers, and many nieces and nephews.

Although Pat worked outside the home until her children were born, for most of her life, Pat focused on being a homemaker.  She was a fantastic loving mom to her kids and “Nana” to her grandkids.  Pat was a gifted seamstress, and she loved to knit and crochet.  Before they were born or shortly after they arrived, each of her grandchildren received a beautifully crocheted afghan from their Nana, and the girls also received hand-sewn christening and communion gowns.  

When her children were growing up, Pat really enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader and went on to several Girl Scout council positions as well.  When Shawn came along, she also got involved with Boy Scouts and was a Cub Scout Den Mother.  She had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed taking the Scouts camping.  She actively participated in her kids’ schools as well and was known as the “hot dog lady” at Our Lady of Mercy where she organized a fundraiser for the school by selling hot dogs to the students once a month.

Pat and Jack also owned a Dunkin’ Donuts franchise for about fifteen years. The “Shop” employees became part of Pat’s extended family—she worked long and diligent hours and always put her customers' and employees’ needs above her own.  Pat was a loving and caring mom, Nana, and friend, and she will be sorely missed.
