Paul Boggess was born in Charleston, WV on April 12, 1941 to his parents Collett & Ruth Boggess. He is survived by his wife Judith Ann Boggess, his children Chris, Anne and Beth, their spouses Heather, Mike, and John, and his precious grandchildren, Casey, Allison, Mary-Michal, Elliot, Sophie, Annie, and Benjamin. He was a loving brother to Linda (deceased) and is survived by his partner in crime and little brother, Ronnie. He wore many hats and did many things professionally but was most proud of his more than 30 years spent as an educator, because he saw the best in every child and believed they should each have an opportunity to learn and have their curiosity nurtured. These words posted on his hospital room wall capture how he thought of himself and how he would like to be remembered:
You may see me as a sometimes ornery, 79-year-old man, but I am so much more than how you know me now. I am a kind, faith-filled, proud man who loves his people big, a protector, a jokester, and an anchor point for those who love me. I am a 21-year-old, fresh from the army, young man who met his wife on a blind date and knew from the instant I saw her that I would marry her. Two months later we eloped on Ground Hog’s Day. That was more than 57 years ago. I have loved her every one of those days. I am a father of three grown children who I have adored, encouraged and supported. I have shown them how to cherish a spouse and a family. They are now raising my 7 grandchildren who range from age 26 to almost 14 and they each love me so. They call me Big Paul or Biggie and each one of them checks in on me every day. I am a former elementary principal, marathon runner, church volunteer, city councilman, business owner, children’s home house parent and huge extrovert. I am a loving husband, an encouraging father, a fun grandfather, a humorous brother and was a devoted son. And I have a family who is anxiously waiting on me to get home. I know they are praying for me, but they are praying for you too and are so very grateful for the way you are caring for me. His family prayed that he would come home to them, but instead he is now waiting at Home for them.
