Philip Monroe Mitchell, 57, passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2022, following complications from surgery. He was surrounded by family and close friends. Phil was born November 9, 1964, in Louisiana. He was a graduate of Pascack Hills High School in Montvale, NJ, and attended Southern Tech/Kennesaw State University in Marietta, GA where he studied computer science and engineering. Phil was an active member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He enjoyed playing trivia and woodworking in his spare time. Phil was a kind-hearted man who didn’t know a stranger. Always smiling, he would lend a hand to anyone in need.
He enjoyed working on his vintage 1965 Mustang Fastback and was a member of the Atlanta Corvette Club. He was active in Monday night poker at the local American Legion for many years. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Marilyn Mitchell of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and is survived by his beloved wife, Angela; daughter, Claudia; sister, LeaAnn English; brother, Howard (Connie); nieces Jordan and Ashton Mitchell; numerous cousins and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at The Grand Theatre in Cartersville, GA at 10:00 am. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, scholarship contributions be made to the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, 2015 Ayrsley Town Blvd, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28237 in Philip’s name.
