Randy Charles Chappell, 65,of Sautee-Nacoochee, Georgia, passed away March 5th, 2018. Randy was born inGriffin on August 2, 1952. He is preceded in death by his parents, J. B., Jr.and Nora Kelley Chappell; sister Delana Smith; and brother-in-law DwayneGregory.
Randy served in the UnitedStates Army, and upon returning to civilian life worked as a machinist and thenat Dundee Mills as a fixer (the third generation of Chappells employed there).He also held a variety of other jobs over the years that allowed him to use hisskill with his hands. Later in life he became a devoted follower of TibetanBuddhism, and traveled twice to India to enter retreat at the TushitaMeditation Centre in Dharamsala.
He is survived by sons TobyChappell of Atlanta and Davis Chappell of Griffin; sister Linda Gregory ofGriffin; brother-in-law Wayne Smith of Griffin; nephews Jeff Smith of Austin,TX and Kenny Smith of Locust Grove; and nieces Penny Benton of Athens and MandyMcDaniel of Griffin.
An informal memorialcelebrating his life will be held on Sunday, March11 from 2pm to 4pm at Bank Street Cafe on S. Hill Street inGriffin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in hisname to the Charles Smithgall Humane Society in Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, or toDrepung Loseling Buddhist Monastery in Atlanta.
