Reed Allen Schonberger

Reed Allen Schonberger went to be with God on December 19, 2018. Reed’s fifteen years were full of accomplishments and touched many people’s lives. He had a deep relationship with God and was a member of Woodstock City Church. There, Reed was a proud leader of a small group at the church and also taught a weekly Sunday school class for younger children. He looked forward every summer to Camp Highland, a Christian camp, eventually becoming a group leader there.  Most recently, he learned his application for the church mission trip to Uganda this summer had been accepted.  He was so proud and excited to have a chance to spread the word of God in Africa.

Reed was an excellent scholar and very athletic, excelling in soccer, basketball and track. At Etowah High School, he made the track team as a freshman, going on to set records in his first and second years on the team. He was a member of many clubs at school, especially enjoying annual holiday shopping trips that benefited kids with special needs.

Reed had a passion for the outdoors and loved to climb trees, explore creeks and woods, and swim with his friends. With his family, he had many memorable vacations to Lake of the Ozarks and Florida with Grandma and Grandpa Barbier and Lake Martin with Grandpa Schonberger. He enjoyed traveling around the country with his dad and brother, Tanner. And most recently, he was in Colorado visiting his family there and snowboarding, a new sport for him which he excelled at.

He is survived by his mother, Amy Greene, his father, Scott Schonberger, his brother, Tanner Schonberger, stepfather Byron Greene and grandparents, Robert and Joanne Barbier, and a host of beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.

A celebration of his life will occur on January 5th, 2019, at Woodstock City Church at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to scholarships for kids who do not have the means to attend Camp Highland, or to GlobalX to support the mission trip to Uganda.  Reed loved serving and loving others and we know he would be honored if you helped us continue the work he started.
