Reese McGee

Reese McGee, 22 years old, left this world on April 28, 2024. He was not your typical person, so this is not your typical obituary.

It’s impossible to understand Reese without understanding how full of a person he was – how he lived life, treating every moment as a blessing.

Reese struggled—with his health, his work, his sense of self. But he never let his struggle stand in the way of experiencing everything life had to offer. Reese lived in a unique and uninhibited way, without fear, with a willingness to jump into anything that sparked his interest.

And his interests were many. Over the years, they have included (but are by no means limited to) baseball, cars, computers, competitive Rubik’s cube solving, anime, card tricks, music (singing it, playing it, and composing it), tabletop roleplaying games, video games, billiards, poker, and of course, snacks. And he did it all with unbridled enthusiasm.

The name “Reese” is Welsh. It means “enthusiasm.” Reese brought that same energy to people. In his every interaction, he brought kindness, understanding, honesty, and an unmistakable sense of humor.

He was never afraid to reach out to someone, to connect with them, to offer his hand in friendship or comfort. He was all things to all people, and he had the rare talent of bringing his full, authentic self into every community he found himself part of.

Reese was an extraordinarily special individual, and in the past year, he had brought that specialness to his renewed relationship with Christ. In his time with the Wildwood Baptist Church college ministry, he bloomed under God’s light, bringing all of his unique and wonderful soul in service to Jesus.

In his final year, he blossomed into even more of an insightful, loyal, and loving servant. There is nobody in his community he did not touch, and in such a short time, he became an integral, beloved member of their ministry.

Reese leaves this world full of the love of the people who knew him, and while his loss leaves an indelible hole, he will always be remembered for his spirit, the kindness he spread, and his unrelenting service to Christ.

He is survived by a family who loved him desperately: his mother Angie Whitmire and stepfather Eddie Whitmire, his father Chris McGee, and stepmother Julie McGee, his three sisters, Payton McGee (Jacob Worcester), Mackenzie Valentine (Catherine Valentine), and Madeline McGee Stillman (Keith Stillman), his grandmother Chung So McGee, his stepsiblings Emma Limoge, Cameron Limoge, Lucas Whitmire, Jacob Whitmire, and Joshua Whitmire, his nieces Emily, Esme, and Audra, and his nephew Joshua.

A public visitation will be held on May 3 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Georgia Funeral Care in Acworth. A separate celebration of life service will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on May 4 at Wildwood Baptist Church in Acworth.

In lieu of flowers, Reese’s family asks that any memorial donations be made to the Epilepsy Foundation or Wildwood Baptist Church.
