Dr. Richard Cutler Hollander died peacefully at his home in Georgia.  He is survived by his three daughters, Dana Florian, Lauren Vinal, and Catherine Tucker, along with his grandchildren, Stephen Cain, Courtney Morgan, Nicholas Yeaton, Jennifer Shapiro, and Heather Wojcik.  He was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren.  

Dr. Hollander enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve in 1944 and received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his heroic conduct in rescuing an enlisted man from drowning on April 4, 1945, near Okinawa, after the man fell overboard during strong winds and rough seas.  That was his nature to help anyone at any time.

Originally from Brockton, Massachusetts, Dr. Hollander was a graduate of Brockton High school, class of 1944, and captained the school swim team.  While he was a student at Tufts College, he made the All-New England lacrosse team, played basketball, and was Treasurer of the College Honorary Society. Dr. Hollander practiced as an optometrist for many years while building a home and raising a family in Scituate, Massachusetts.  He was an avid golfer and a long-standing member at the Cohasset Golf Club where numerous trophies and plaques list Dr. Hollander’s name.  He also enjoyed playing bridge and obtained the status of Life Master.  Upon retiring, he moved to Springhill, Florida where he continued golfing and playing bridge, eventually moving to Georgia to live with his daughter Dana and her family. 

His happiest moments were spending time with his family and golfing.  He was always well dressed, sharp as a whistle, full of knowledge, and loved telling stories of the past in great detail.  He was an amazing man full of energy and wit even at the age of ninety-eight he was still dancing.  He will be deeply missed by his family and anyone that had the honor of knowing him.

He will be laid to rest at the VA National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on July 22 at 9:00 a.m.
