Sam R. Smith age 69, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 2, 2019, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Max R. and Louise Lanham Smith.
He had many interests, among them were drag racing, NASCAR, and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. He was a devoted Christian who loved his church, family, animals, and car business. He never met a stranger and was always willing to speak with anyone.
Sam was a co-owner of Riverview Ford located in Ellijay, Georgia. After many years of working at Riverview Ford, he adventured out and became co-owner of Parkway Ford located in Adairsville, Georgia. After selling Parkway Ford, Sam became General Manager of Cedartown Ford located in Cedartown, Georgia then became the co-owner of Sam Smith Chevrolet located in Summerville, Georgia. Due to his declining health, he was forced to retire from the job he loved very much.
Sam is survived by his wife, Delaine of fifty-two years. Also, surviving are his two sons, Robbie (Kim) Smith and their children, Anna (Doug) Heath, Nikki and Brock; Derrick Smith and his children, Dustin, Austin, and Prestin Smith whose mother is Tosha Smith who was like a daughter to Sam. Sister, Joyce (Lamar) Wilson and Nephew Andy (JJ) Wilson. Niece Tina (Joey) Mitchell and their son Andrew. Step-Sisters Gail (Paul) Bridges and children and Phyllis Barbarino and daughter.
The homecoming celebration will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Grace Baptist Church located at 477 Old Cass-White Road, Cartersville, Georgia. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm followed by the Memorial service. Officiating will be Rev. Doug Harris. Sam will be cremated, and the burial service will be held at a later date.
