Valerie Schneider Hollmeyer, 74, most recently of Sandy Springs, GA, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2022. Born on July 8, 1948, in Memphis, TN, Valerie moved many times throughout her life. She spent her early years in Minnesota. Her family then relocated to Arlington, VA, where she graduated from Yorktown High School. Valerie attended Marietta College in Ohio for two years but transferred to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she graduated in 1970. Valerie married Steven Kuney and they moved to Philadelphia, where she received a graduate degree in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. Valerie and Steve then moved back to Virginia with their son, Aaron. After her divorce, Valerie began teaching in the Fairfax County School System. She married John A. Hollmeyer Jr. in 1985, and spent 20 years working for Fairfax County; first as an elementary school teacher and then as an assessor for the County’s English as a Second Language program. After they retired, she and John moved down to Cocoa Beach, FL. John passed away in 2012 and Valerie moved to Atlanta to be closer to Aaron and his family. Throughout her life, Valerie enjoyed traveling, reading, and volunteering, but she valued her family and her many friendships above all else. Valerie maintained long-lasting relationships with so many - from her high school and college friends, to the group of women (“Fab 5”) she traveled with, and to the many people she met in her various hometowns along the way.
Valerie is survived by her son Aaron (Elizabeth) Kuney, her granddaughters, Alexis and Charlotte, her brother, Glen (Carol) Schneider, her sister, Marilyn (Kevin) Kellam, and many other loving family members.
A memorial service will be held in Northern Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in honor of Valerie to the Lewy Body Dementia Association - https://www.lbda.org/
